VGM Sealand Surchage due to Weight Discrepancies

Please note that as of July 1, 2020 shipping line MAERSK SEALAND will charge a weight discrepancy Fee of $100.00 per shipment – Bill of lading, in case one of the three following discrepancies is found:

  1. Discrepancy between VGM and weight declared in shipping instruction (shipping instruction weight + container tare weight).
  2. Declared VGM exceeds max gross weight of the container as per CSC Plate “Container Safety Convention Plate” (excluding SOC – Shipper Owned Container).
  3. Declared VGM is less than tare weight of the container.

Based on this fact, shippers are encouraged to provide the correct cargo gross weight for the cargo loaded into the containers prior or immediately after loaded, so these discrepancies can be avoided. This cargo gross weight must be both correct when filling the VGM form we GCA provide you, and when sending us the loading report or packing list. If possible, we suggest
shippers to provide us the Tare weight of the container once received for loading.
